Product Description:
Brewery Van Steenberge is located in the Belgian town of Ertvelde near the city of Gent. The brewery produces some 10 different beers with approximately 70% of its production being top fermented beers of which the Tripel is an excellent example. The tripel (or triple) beer style use about 3 times more malt than usual and following primary fermentation in a vat or keg the beer undergoes additional fermentation in the bottle. The resulting hazy gold 9% alcohol brew is an excellent party beer and was the favoured beer for the senior clergy in the Abbeys and monasteries in which these beers were originally brewed. Slightly more hoppy bitter than its dubbel cousin, the tripel pairs well with most pre or post dinner nibbles such as cheese or with seafoods such as shellfish and if stored correctly keeps for at least 2 years after bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Pours a very faint hazy gold with small white short lasting head. A huge burst of floral nectar, raisins and honey emerges on the first pour followed by boiled lollies, toffee made with balsamic vinegar, and faint vegemite yeast aromas. Generous yeasty, caramel malt and bitter start. Lighter sweeter more carbonated middle and clean dry finish. Aftertaste is sweet and the yeast resurfaces at the front of the mouth for a nice effect. Alcohol is quite well masked considering how relatively light tasting a beer it is. Becomes more festive as it warms up. If you like noel beers you will like this one.
